The Finnish jazz quartet Nuijamiehet was formed in 1996. Since then the young musicians - still in their early/mid twenties - have played concerts in Finland (e.g. touring with the Marc Ducret Trio in the spring of 2000), Spain and Belgium, made several recordings for YLE, the Finnish broadcasting company (1998, 1999) and finally in November 2000 released their debut-cd "Nuijamiehet" (FRCD-2) on Fiasko Records.

Stylistically speaking, the music of Nuijamiehet is mixed with influences from the American as well as European jazz traditions, the "Nordic Sound", rock music and folk music, to name a few. One could say that Nuijamiehet is floating in a space between free jazz and modern mainstream jazz, searching for their own personal voice as a group of improvisers and composers.

The personnel of Nuijamiehet has remained constant since 1996. The group consists of Mikko Innanen on alto, soprano and baritone sax, guitarist Kalle Kalima, bassist Lasse Lindgren and Mika Kallio on drums.
